Introducing Math Note Individualised Learning Classes™

Personalised Learning, Group-Class Experience

At Math Note, every child learns differently — and that’s exactly how we teach.
Our
Individualised Learning Classes™ are designed so that your child receives the attention and customization of a private lesson, while still enjoying the energy and motivation of a small group class.

In each class, students may be at different levels, but every child follows their own customised learning plan. Our teachers work individually with each student, ensuring your child’s progress and goals always come first.

This approach isn’t “less” — it’s more.
More attention. More focus. More results.

Here’s what makes Individualised Learning Classes™ different

Individual Guidance

Teachers spend focused time with each student, addressing specific strengths and challenges.

Speech Bubble A+

Collaborative Environment

A small, supportive class creates a motivating and engaging atmosphere.

Individual teaching (個別指導 / Kobetsu Shidō) is widely practised in Japan through juku (塾), giving students personalised support beyond school lessons. At our centre, each student also benefits from one-to-one guidance, helping them learn at their own pace, strengthen their understanding, and gain confidence in their studies.

The Power of Our Individualised Learning Class

Every child learns differently — and every school teaches differently.

That’s why our Individualised Learning Class is designed to teach smarter, not just more.

For example:

  • School A might teach Topics 1, 2, and 5 before the first Weighted Assessment (WA1).

  • School B might teach Topics 2, 3, and 4.

In a typical group tuition setting, all students learn the same topics — say 1, 2, and 3 — regardless of what their school is covering.
This can result in students revising topics they won’t be tested on yet, while missing the ones that matter most for their upcoming exams.

Our Individualised Learning Class works differently.
We customise each student’s lesson plan to match their school’s progress:

  • A student from School A will learn Topics 1, 2, and 5.

  • A student from School B will learn Topics 2, 3, and 4.

This ensures every student is always learning what’s most relevant for their next assessment — staying confident, prepared, and ahead.

Over time, we still cover the entire syllabus, but in the most effective order for your child’s success.

Key benefits:

  • No wasted lessons

  • No confusion from mismatched topics

  • Focused learning that delivers real results

Frequently Asked Questions

Individualised Learning does work

Evidence from global research, including Singapore, shows:

  • Students learn better when lessons match their pace, strengths, and weaknesses.

  • Confidence and engagement improve when students are not forced into a “one-size-fits-all” pace.

  • Tutors who adapt teaching methods per student often see faster improvement, especially in problem-solving subjects like math or science.

Why Most Tuition Centres in Singapore Are Not Doing It

Economics and Scalability

  • Most tuition centres run group classes of 10–20 students to remain profitable.

  • Differentiated learning requires preparing different learning paths for different students, which is significantly more time-consuming and demanding.

  • In practice, one tutor can only provide deep, personalised attention to 1–8 students at most. This is why we intentionally keep our classes small, even though it is harder to scale.

Tutor Training

  • Many tutors are strong subject experts, but not all are trained in adaptive teaching methods or learning psychology.

  • Differentiated learning involves ongoing assessment, flexible lesson planning, and close monitoring of each student’s progress. This requires far more effort than simply following a fixed syllabus.

Why We Choose This Approach

Individualised learning works, but it is uncommon in mainstream tuition in Singapore because it is expensive, resource-intensive, and difficult to scale.

We choose to do this because our priority is to help students learn effectively, not to maximise profit.

Why parents choose Individualised Learning Classes™

“My child gets the attention they need, learns at their own pace, and I don’t have to pay for a private tutor. It’s the best of both worlds.”
