Tutor Guidelines & Responsibilities
To ensure a productive, organised and positive learning environment, all tutors are expected to follow these guidelines for every lesson.
Before the Lesson
-
Arrive 5–15 minutes early to prepare teaching materials and ensure everything is ready before students arrive.
-
Attendance: Ask students to sign the attendance sheet when they arrive.
-
School Progress: Ask students about:
-
Topics they are currently learning in school.
-
Upcoming tests or examinations.
-
Recent test or examination results, if any.
-
-
Homework: Check students' homework and tick the appropriate box on the attendance sheet to indicate whether it has been completed.
During the Lesson
-
Keep students engaged at all times. Every student should always have work in front of them.
-
If you are marking work or attending to another student, assign appropriate exercises so that no student is left waiting without work.
-
Always speak to students in a polite, gentle and respectful tone.
-
Treat students with the same respect and consideration you would give adults.
-
Encourage students to think independently rather than simply providing answers.
-
Maintain a quiet and conducive learning environment.
After the Lesson
-
Assign homework based on each student's learning needs and progress.
-
Use the homework stamp provided to write down the assigned homework clearly.
-
Return all attempted worksheets to students, including those that have not been fully marked or discussed during the lesson.
-
Remind students to check and bring home all their belongings, including worksheets, stationery, calculators, water bottles and personal items.
-
Ensure the teaching area is tidy and ready for the next class.
-
Progress Report: Please complete the Progress Report spreadsheet for each student by the end of the same day as the lesson.
Important Notes – Student Files & Worksheets
-
Student Files: Please do not leave students' files on their tables.
-
Attempted Worksheets: Do not keep any worksheets that students have attempted in their files. All attempted worksheets should be returned to students to bring home, even if there is insufficient time to go through or mark every question.
